Sooooo…this is what it’s like to blog? Wow. There’s a lot of empty white space here….makes me feel like I’m starting a paper in college. Yuck. Ok, gather(thank you Ms. Winslet)…I can do this…
I’ll admit it, I’ve been attempting to write this blog for about, oh, two or three years. I don’t know why it’s been so hard to do–well, I do know actually–I am a terrible procrastinator. Always have been. It’s a talent really. I could show you hundreds of beautiful journals with one entry. Ahh yes, the best of intentions indeed.
I think part of my problem with this whole “blogging” thing(does anyone else think that’s a weird word?) is that I haven’t figured out what in the heck to say. What in the world could I say that anyone besides my sainted parents and maybe my wife would want to hear? Yeah, you’re right, even they would just be humoring me. Though I have no answer to that question, I’ve decided, in this new era of “change we can believe in” that I’m just gonna start writing. Stream of consiousness. Whatever’s on my mind. No holds barred…….Ok, that’s not gonna work either. Editing is the hallmark of a noble man. So here’s what we’ll do. We(and by “we” I mean “I”) will talk about whatever’s on our(and by “our” I mean “my”) mind. It certainly won’t be groundbreaking or breathtaking but it might be worth a laugh, or a small tear perhaps, for all of you(and by “you” I mean “my mom”) out there in cyberspace! In no particular order, here’s what’s on my mind:
Just watched President Obama’s non-State of the Union State of the Union address. I felt like I had finally awakened from a bad 8 year dream! What a pleasure it was to hear an articulate and intelligent human being talk about our country and it’s issues. I’m lucky enough to be young enough to not really recall any kind of serious recession. Yeah there were some downturns in the economy in my time but nothing like this. The boarded up shop fronts and friends taking second and third jobs are just a few of the sad indicators of just how rough it has been. And they say it’s gonna get worse. Sheesh. I guess that’s why tonight’s speech was so important, and so welcome. Here’s hoping next years “address” will be heard by a much more prosperous “Union”.
The Acadamy Awards. My man Hugh Jackman did a bang up job I thought. I know I’m a little Aussie-centric sometimes since we actually live there sometimes, but the man is a throwback to the classy song and dance men of old. We watched the show from the house of a former Oscar nominee which was fun. It was a reminder of how close we are to this pinnacle of show business, both literally(we live about 5 miles from the Kodak Theatre) and figuratively. I look forward to the day that I get to be there….in my gorgeous gown, glowing for all to see!
As a die-hard Indianapolis Colts fan I was saddened to hear that we lost one of our best and most beloved players today in Marvin Harrison. What? Oh no, he didn’t die, he just was released for salary cap reasons….yeah that doesn’t sound very poetic, I know. Just goes to show you that it’s business first in just about everything these days–especially sports.
Whew…well that wasn’t so bad. I actually feel better. Kinda like after a workout. In fact, I think I’ve earned some jelly beans. You know what, if you’ve read this far, so have you.
Peace,
DP
